Pedicab in the old walled city
I'm facing down a couple deadlines so there'll be no story today. Here instead are a few of Dave's images from our January sojourn in Jogjakarta. Did we mention that Jogja really gets under your skin, in a good way? That has everything to do with the locals.
And if you're new to EatingAsia, follow the links to read about a local breakfast treat and how the famous Jogja specialty nasi gudeg is made.

The pictures are simply amazing!!!! Love them all!

The "Sultan's mask maker" photo - that's actually the gunungan, a wayang shadow puppet used to separate scenes and stand in for the forces of nature. If he is a mask maker, he's probably a wayang craftsman as well.

Meena - Thanks much!
Ed - Thanks for that one, you caught me. This post went up in a hurry and for the life of me I couldn't bring the words 'wayang kulit' to the front of my brain. Changing now.
Jodi - Dave says thanks. And thanks for reading (looking)!

Thanks folks! Jodi, I saw that wall when we were out walking and thought there's got to be a photo there. Before I knew it the pedicab came through and proved me right. Sometimes you get lucky! Click on the photo for a bigger view.
