You are in Penang? Awesome, let me see, what have I tried lately that I love....ooooh, the ikan bakar behind Park Royal is good. There are two seafood stalls, one for seafood and the other one is ikan bakar. Love it. They are available at night.

And I have thank you for the mee sotong you posted a few months ago, I have never tried that, and absolutely fabulous. I am craving it as I write this.

For homestyle Penang food, head to Sin Kheang Aun off Chulia Street, they have pretty good gulai tumis pomfret, masak belanda ikan masin, and assam prawns. Homey and nostalgic food that I love.

Last but not least, home-cooked balitong served in the house of Chew Jetty, just ask the people there who serve balitong and they will point you there.

Hi Bee - We hit Sin Kheang Aun yesterday. First went there a few years ago and now the owner greets us like family. That's what makes Penang so great - the people.

Thanks for the other recs ... we're here for work so already 'obligated' to eat at alot of places, but we'll try them if we have room!

Pete

Try the popiah (with crabmeat) at Padang Brown if you have the chance - it's fabulous! They've been there as long as I can remember: 40 years?

Robyn

Hi Pete - that we've done. Don't think I ever posted it, though... yeah, the crabmeat popiah are spectacular.
