In September I spent some time on Langkawi to report my first non food-related feature article. The result - a piece that focuses on the precarious state of the island's natural heritage, appears in this month's issue of Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia - is viewable here:

I had a great time on Langkawi but it was a bit surreal to be in a strange place and not spend most of my waking hours exploring its food scene. In fact, I clearly remember only one meal - an absolutely scrumptious Thai-style beef noodle soup, taken at a shop called Kuey Teow Sup Perut (Bangunan Haji Taib, Bukit Tekoh - across from the hospital; 04/966-1357). Very highly recommended.
My next assignment for the magazine? A food-driven feature article. It's always good to branch out but it will be nice to be back in my element.
Being a person who loves looking at maps, it is so fun to read your blog, then go to google maps and find out the location described in the post.
Reading about LangKawi not only has put it on the map for me, but has put it on as a place to visit. Also, I have never heard of a Geopark status and am glad to hear about it.
Hopefully the residents, local government, and preservationist can educate each other of their needs and come up with a great plan to properly develop LangKawi and preserve it's natural elements.

Thanks Kelly. I had my doubts about Langkawi but I left wanting to return. The key is to find a way to immerse yourself in the green side of the island. I wouldn't go just to laze on a beach, that's not where its uniquenesses lay.
Cheers.

Back in the US with my blazing speed WIFI and finally got to check out this article. Well done, Robyn. This is the first-ever article that does real justice to the beauty of Langkawi. I actually love Langkawi, certain areas reminded me of Penang when I was little, so leisurely slow and peaceful. (I wanted to buy a property there!) The photographer did a great job in capturing the beauty of Langkawi, too. Well done, can't wait for your next T&L article. And next project, Conde Naste? ;)
